![]() These comments are taken from letters and e-mails from teachers, police officers, parents and children who have used the Missing Kit.... Dear LiveWires: We presented the Missing program to 460 students here at River Valley Middle School. The kit was informative, interesting, creative, accurate and fun to present. The students, all 460 of them, enjoyed it thoroughly.... A good measurement of the interest the students possessed was that NOT ONCE during the presentations, games or testimonials, did a student (460 of them) ask to be excused for a drink or go to the washroom. Believe me, as a teacher, not a class goes by that students do not ask to be excused!! I am confident the students have more respect for the internet, email, chat lines, etc. The students now use the internet with a more prudent approach. Thank You, LeRoy Vincent
"I enjoy doing this project, because it informs children to be careful when they are on the Internet". "I enjoy the Missing project, cause it helps kids learn not to give out information. Also, I enjoy learning about it to help keep kids safe." "I found it to be very informative. I never realized exactly what went on out there." Grade 9 students from Sylvan Lake Outreach School
Dear Livewires, I have just completed the missing game with my 12 year old daughter. I would like to commend your staff for making such a thought provoking and educational product. I received the package at the Annual General meeting of the Alberta Home and School Councils Association in Edmonton...I hope that there are many families who become Missing Project families...Thank you. "All in all, the program was wonderful. I have told many people around me about it including our local law enforcement officers. We will target grade 7 at our school from now on... The current grade 6s got wind of what we were doing and wanted in on the action - but (there was) just no time this year. They are looking forward to next year when they can participate. Thanks so much for all your support." Teacher, Patty Pluss. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Dear LiveWires: On Thursday May 24th, I provided a four hour training session to RCMP community policing officers from across Nova Scotia. These officers are expected to return to their communities, form a partnership with teachers and parents, and deliver the Missing program. This session gave us an opportunity to discuss dangers to our children on the Internet and, by using the Missing Kit, help to develop safe Internet plans. Included in the training session were three municipal police forces along with two teachers. All comments were very supportive of this approach to learning. Sgt. Al Langille, RCMP Technological Crime Unit, Halifax.
"I find that the Missing game is a wonderful tool that can help kids. I myself played it at cadet camp. Everyone [thought] that it was good. All the kids want it now. Cadets have decided that it's going to be played nationally throughout the cadet camps and corps/squadrons. Thank you for making us all more aware of what's out there." Teenage girl from cadet camp
"The Missing game is an excellent tool for alerting children about how to avoid the dangers on the Internet. We at the Foundation are excited about this new tool, which provides a positive and preventative approach to the tragedies we deal with every day". The Polly Klaas Foundation
"I was impressed with the investigative
side of the game and I believe I will add it to the Massachusetts
Police Recruit Classes that I teach on Basic Computer Investigations."
"I have used Missing in the UK and
I highly recommend it to colleagues across the globe."
"We are now working hard on the Cyberethics
and Internet Safety program. They are fast learners, from the
accelerated classes. While playing the game, they are so engrossed
that they didn't even notice my presence as I go around to check
what they are doing. They work as a team (3 members to a group)
and they show cooperation and teamwork." |
