Wall Shelves For Small Spaces
Wall Shelves – The process of installing shelves mounted on the wall is simple. Like most construction tasks, it starts with planning and measurement. The wall shelves are then fixed to the wall, either using drywall anchors for the very light duty shelves or attach directly to the underlying posts for shelves intended to carry more weight. Final touches are added to ensure stability and improve the appearance of the shelf.
When planning any permanent modifications to a home, start by taking careful measures and using mock-ups to simulate the changes. Before installing wall mounted shelving, it is a good idea to use cardboard shelves to give you an idea of what the finished project will look like. If you need the shelves to carry weight, identify the location of the posts behind the plaster or drywall because they will have to be anchored to the posts of the shelves or their supports. This will determine the placement of the support brackets and the shelves that rest on top of them. A ruler and level should be used to mark the wall to ensure that the wall shelves are installed with even spacing and level.

For low wall shelves, the attachment can be achieved with plastic billets installed in the holes drilled through the drywall. The anchors expand to grip the back of the wall when a screw is screwed through them. For shelves holding any actual weight, assembly will involve the use of screws, ideally, gypsum screws, to mount the support system directly to the underlying posts. Using a small drill bit to pre-drill a guide hole can be useful here.
